Chris Dominic catches fish using traditional cotton nets on
his day boat - he doesn't catch every kind of fish, but he
buys other locally and responsibly caught fish from his fellow
fisherman at Looe, also caught from their day boats. Flat
bottomed fish like lemon sole and plaice are caught by small
boats trawling locally, not massive industrial size boats
ploughing up the sea bed on a wide scale.
You will not be surprised to learn that fish caught by one
or two person crews on small boats is more expensive than fish
caught on pelagic or beam trawlers. We look at the extra cost
as the price of peace of mind, the price of good welfare and
the price of a thriving local fishing port that affords us the
luxury of buying sustainable fish.
We're really greatful to Chris for getting out there in his
boat and giving us the opportunity to enjoy just about the
freshest, cracking good fish you can buy.
