Ever get the feeling you're being duped? Seriously Good was inspired by exactly this feeling. We got fed up with supermarkets: the lack of local food, the absence of food from small producers and shelves devoid of information about the provenance of food. The increasing dissatisfaction of wandering down an aisle, despairing of the number of `ingredients'; the never-ending list of E-this, E-that and any number of sugars by a different name; all of which can be found in virtually every product. When did food get so complicated? When did so much of it have to travel so many thousands of miles to reach our plates? We wanted to believe that `free range' meant more than an animal born outside; that `organic' meant local as well as quality. We wanted to get back in touch with the seasons and feel confident that the values and business behind the products we brought were ethical for suppliers and buyers alike.

What about the animals too? Whatever your views about the ethics, what they eat and their welfare really affects the taste of the end product. Then there's marketing, we're suckers for it. That lovely silver packaging and salivating photography, but what about the list of ingredients? Markedly similar to any-old-value brand. Strange that. What about the provenance, any idea where it comes from? Frankly we got fed up with it. So we went in search of something different and it's been so exciting finding amazing food, simply produced.

Moving to Cornwall inspired us to provide an alternative, the kind of alternative that we wanted to use ourselves as a shopping service. Cornwall is one of the UK's best loved holiday spots, it's beauty is breath-taking and its natural environment awe-inspiring. We no longer feel the need to buy exclusively organic food to be assured of eating healthy, good quality food.

Many farms here are small, treat animals extremely well, don't use pesticides and fertilisers, don't use GM food, don't send their animals miles up country for slaughter, which is extremely stressful. They breed their own animals, let them suckle their mothers and wean naturally, mature them slowly and ensure they have healthy lives outdoors. The slaughter and processing happens locally and the food is sold at farmers markets and at the farm gate. This is the kind of food we wanted to buy and this is the kind of food we believe everyone has a right to be able to buy.

Small farms and businesses with time and attention to devote to their craft produces food of superior taste and quality. It really is that simple. Good local food is out there. We are simply about making it available at a reasonable price. Of course we could happily bang on and on about the politics of eating, but you might get bored. We'll let the food do the talking and you of course, you're feedback is really the proof of the eating.
